Machinist Lead - 2nd Shift
Schunk Xycarb Technology, Inc., in Georgetown, Texas is growing and seeking a Machinist, Lead – 2nd Shift for our Georgetown, Texas facility. This position is full-time and will be eligible for all Xycarb benefits. Sign-on bonus included in benefits package.
The Machinist - Lead has a broad variety of different tasks to perform. The primary role is to make quality quartz products and parts meeting customer’s specifications using glass machining techniques.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Ability to load CNC programs using DNC system.
- Ability to operate Horizontal Lathes and Vertical Milling centers.
- Setting up of work offsets and tooling offsets and understand basic G & M code.
- Understanding of machine and tooling for required surface finishes and correct stock removal and identifying tool ware.
- Able to inspect parts and compensate tool diameter and height to meet print specification.
- Ability to use clippers, micrometers assorted gages and optical comparator.
- Examine work orders, drawings, specifications and planning and divide the work orders and when needed instruct and train coworkers.
- Closely analyze products for basic functional problems, identify defective parts and control quality and progress in work flow and take corrective actions in case of quality issues and or delays.
- Perform the daily maintenance on the CNC Machining equipment and report malfunction to maintenance department.
- Assist production supervisor in developing skills and quality of the operators, advice on skill matrix, individual performance.
- Control quality and progress in work flow and take corrective actions for quality issues and or delays.
- Make suggestions for improvements and apply approved changes.
- Monitor compliance with safety, environment and quality regulations.
- Handle other miscellaneous duties as needed.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 to 7 years’ experience with CNC equipment in a manufacturing environment (experience with Haas Mills, Lathes a plus). - Minimum of 3 - 5 years of team lead/working foreman experience in supporting, coaching and training machine operators.
- Formal vocational training in manufacturing/machining and/or programming preferred.
- In depth knowledge and skill on CNC machining products, production methods and processes; CNC Machine, tooling identification, materials, reading, adjust offset parameters and Customers’ demand on specifications measures and finishing.
- Knowledge and prior experience in production equipment, tooling, measuring tools, production methods, planning and routing.
- Attention to detail is a must.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Work Hours:
2nd Shift Monday-Thursday 3:00pm to 1:30am (4) 10 hour shifts - additional 10% shift differential
Physical Requirements:
- Job requires bending, stooping, walking, sitting, and reaching overhead.
Manufacturing environment; may be exposed to loud noises, changing temperatures, machinery with moving parts and quartz materials. - Must be able to work and be comfortable in required appropriate PPE such as smock, face mask, respirator at times, etc.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, pushing, pulling, and standing for long periods of time.
- Required to have visual acuity to perform assigned tasks.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
